About Dr. Guthrie-Shimizu:

Sayuri Guthrie Shimizu is Dunlevie Family Professor of History. She received a Ph. D. and MA in US history from Cornell University.  Her area of research is the history of US-East Asian relations. She received the first Fulbright as a Japanese graduate student studying in the U. S., Her second Fulbright was senior research fellowship in Japan as an American Fulbrighter. 

What I like about Rice/Houston:

Rice takes undergraduate education seriously and gives faculty resources needed to do good work.

Opening so many doors to the awardees.
