About Dr. Hennelly:

Lauren Hennelly is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Rice University. Previously, she was a NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Copenhagen and is a Research Associate at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. She uses genomic tools to study how divergence, adaptation, and domestication shapes genetic and phenotypic variation in animals. Her work directly informs conservation management and efforts for several endangered species

What I like about Rice/Houston:

Rice University is a fantastic and vibrant place. Its a close-knit community of students, researchers, and faculty with such a wide range of interest and expertise -- from engineering and biological sciences, to music and art. Houston is also equally vibrant! There is always so much to do and explore, from the food scene to natural areas around the city.  

What I like about the Fulbright Program:

The opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas and knowledge with so many people while being completely immersed in a new place and culture. My Fulbright experience allowed me to build lasting, long-term research collaborations and friendships that continue to enrich both my work and my life today.
 

Fun Fact about me:

I spent a year living in Wyoming and Idaho before starting graduate school where I did field work on elk, mule deer, and grey wolves.
