I was born and raised in Mexico City, a big city where I learned to be competitive but also kind. I like the balance of learning/working and exercise/sports. Although I will write only about my academic and professional record, basketball, running and tennis have always been my go-to activities when life turns out to be too stressful. I have always had a passion for physics because trying to understand the world around us is just so fascinating and intriguing. I decided to study Mechatronics Engineering at Universidad Panamericana with a Specialty in Environmental Engineering. After graduation, I worked for a year at Vestas, a company in charge of building and maintenance of wind farms all over Latin America. During the 2020 pandemic, I remembered my old passion for physics and decided to do something about it. So, I returned to my old physics passion and started working as a High School Robotics and Physics Teacher for 3 years. Now, I will pursue my Ph.D. in Applied Physics where I want to apply the principles of quantum mechanics to create novel materials and communication/computation systems.
On Rice/Houston:
First of all, I like being close to my home country. Houston is like a second home for me because you can still feel the Mexican culture everywhere you go. Not only do I feel comfortable in Houston, but also at Rice where people are so welcoming and approachable.
On Fulbright:
The Fulbright Program brings a sense of community that extends barriers. Getting to know people with great ambitions from all around the world is the most special aspect of the program.
Fun Fact:
During my bachelor's degree, I played in the Mexican first division college tournament for 5 years in a row.
