Program: Master's in Computer Science
Home Country: Albania
Universities: SUNY Empire State University
Languages: Albanian, English

I was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, to two wonderful Albanian parents. Since I was a kid, I developed a keen interest on machines of any kind (from cars, to computers and even industrial machines) and their inner-workings, primarily fueled by my father's occupation as a mechanical engineer. What started as a cool hobby for me as a kid, would eventually grow to the point where it would shape my future self.

After graduating high school, I wanted to pursue a career in computers and programing. In 2019, I successfully enrolled in the Information Technology Bachelors program, offered by University of New York in Prague, in collaboration with SUNY Empire State University. Studying in Prague was an eye-opening experience to me, because it was my first time socializing and interacting in a multicultural environment with people from all walks of life.

In 2023 I graduated with a SUNY ESU diploma (and the CUM LAUDE achievement), and shortly after was hired at the Academic Network of Albania as a full-stack developer, where I worked for 3 years. Now, I am excited to begin a new chapter of my life here at Rice, to continue fueling my desire to learn about computers and AI, at the heart of Houston and make lifelong memories and connections.

What I like most about Rice/Houston:

I love Houston's parks, and especially the Space Center. I also like the city's diversity. As for Rice, I find its history very fascinating, and I love its campus and facilities (it reminds me of a miniature city).

What I like most about Fulbright:

Apart from providing the opportunity to grow academically, my favorite thing about this program is its emphasize on intercultural exchange and connection building. It gives people a unique chance to learn, share and explore ideas, while making a meaningful impact in a community abroad.

Fun fact about me:

I'm a huge car nerd!
