Barbara Damasceno studied her BS in Materials Engineering at the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco in Brazil. Her Ph.D. research is ongoing in the Mechanical and Aeronautics Engineering Department at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology. She is a Fulbright Visiting Scholar in the Chemistry Department at Rice University. She has expertise in synthesis, characterization, and application of carbon nanomaterials, Gallium Nitride thin films, SAW sensors, and nanotechnology. Her ongoing research consists in the development of a SAW biosensor composed by GaN-enhanced graphene to detect SARS-CoV-2 virus.
