About Dr. Hoffman:
Our research group studies how ice sheets, oceans, and the solid Earth interact to shape sea-level rise and coastal change. We take a holistic approach to ice-sheet science and sea-level monitoring, combining measurements such as satellite geodesy and laser altimetry with ground-based and airborne geophysics, ocean hydrographic measurements, and measurements enabled by autonomous technologies. We assimilate these observations into ice-flow and ice-ocean cavity models to understand the processes governing ice deformation, ice fracture, glacier sliding, and ocean driven melt. By linking observations to physical processes, we aim to improve projections that support coastal adaptation and resilience planning.
