Among the many Fulbright scholars, Rice is welcoming for the very first time a Foreign Language Teacher Assistant (FLTA). “The Fulbright FLTA Program is designed to develop Americans' knowledge of foreign cultures and languages by supporting teaching assistantships in more than 35 languages at hundreds of U.S. institutions of higher education.”
Nathan Queiroz is from Brazil and came to Rice to teach Portuguese.
The Portuguese course is offered to all Rice university students who want to learn the language. In November, Nathan had the opportunity to attend the mid-year conference in DC where he presented about how Rice has sought to provide more dynamic and immersive Portuguese classes.
“The conference aimed to enhance their experience in the US as teachers, students, and their teaching methodology and provide them with supplementary classroom techniques and professional skills for the semester ahead and upon their return home.” It is also a moment to connect with many Fulbright scholars from all over the world.
