Our lab studies the evolutionary processes that shape genetic and phenotypic variation in animals. We use large-scale genomic data combined with information from behavior, phenotypes, and reproductive biology of animals to address a wide set of research questions. These questions include (1) how we can use genomic data to reconstruct the evolutionary histories of species, (2) how anthropogenic change alters the evolutionary trajectories of species and (3) the molecular basis of complex and adaptive traits. We primarily use mammals, especially wild and domestic canids, as a system to address these questions. A major goal is to ensure our scientific findings contribute to preserving biodiversity, and therefore we work closely with international and local partners to translate our findings into conservation efforts.
