Matias Romero Moriya is a Fulbrighter from Paraguay. He is an Industrial Engineer from Universidad Paraguayo Alemana (Paraguay) and is about to start a master program in Data Science at Rice University. Currently he works as Quality and Experience Analyst in Tigo, one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Latin America, where he plays a relevant role in planning and executing projects based on data analyzes, that allows boosting customers' satisfaction and minimizing operational costs. He was nominated as the valedictorian of his promotion in his undergraduate program. During his undergrad program, he was elected as President of the Student Council of the Engineering School. Matias was awarded with the Erasmus+ scholarship to finance his studies in Germany during two semesters. Moreover, he was awarded in 2018 with a scholarship given by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for a German course in Germany. In his free time, you will find him photographing, spending time with his friends and family, and planning trips. He loves hiking.

On Houston and Rice: 

I like the quality of professors that teach at Rice, the low ratio of student vs staff, the chance they offer to connect with other students, other scholarship holders and a lot of companies from the US. I also like the fact that Rice is located in a city where many attractions are offered, which allows the students to have some time for themselves and have a break from the academic life.

On Fulbright:

So far, what I like the most about the Fulbright program is the opportunity, it gives us to study in one the best academic countries in the world. I like the fact that an academic specialist is also assigned to help us during the application process to universities. Moreover, I like the recognition title that the scholarship offers.
