I was born in Santander/Colombia. I did my bachelor’s degree at the Industrial University of Santander in metallurgical engineering. I have almost four years of professional experience. During my time in college, I dreamed about studying abroad and started learning English. I spent nearly two years studying English as a second language at the language institute of the Industrial University of Santander. After graduation, my first job was at the university, working on structural integrity projects for oil wells facilities for a year. Then, I started working as an instructor in a materials testing laboratory at Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA), in which I acquired an extensive knowledge of materials, electrochemistry, and nondestructive testing. After leaving this position as an instructor, I decided to apply for scholarships to study abroad. After several efforts, I am proud to mention that I was granted a Fulbright scholarship. Thanks to the Fulbright Commission, I have been living one of my dreams of studying at the remarkable institution Rice University. I am pursuing my master’s degree in Materials Science and Nanoengineering, researching lithium-ion batteries for renewable energy applications.

On Rice & Houston:

What I like the most in Houston are Rice Campus and its surroundings. Rice University’s architecture is unparalleled. It has a Mediterranean revival style and is surrounded by green areas, making it a perfect place to visit, study, and enjoy. Furthermore, the Rice faculty is highly supportive and close to the students. It is incredible to be able to establish relationships with faculties and administrators from Rice.

On Fulbright:

Fulbright, for me, is a dream come true. It is the most supportive group I have ever been to. They are always available to guide you through the process. It is like the family that hosts you while being away from home. Fulbright at Rice is very special and highly supported by the administration. Fulbrighters have a special treatment that encourages you to go further.
