I am a third-generation descendant of Japanese immigrants; born and raised in Mexico City. I studied my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education where I was awarded the Tower of Excellence Award for having the best overall GPA across disciplines. During my studies, I had the opportunity to work in projects involving medical imaging and software development for healthcare technologies. After graduation, I worked with a Professor at "Grupo Ángeles Servicios de Salud", a large hospital network in Mexico, and at a Clinical Research Organization in the Data Management Department. I am very excited to join Rice this Fall 2021! I want to acquire tools that will enable me to contribute in the development of technology to improve healthcare and health equity.

On Rice:
At Rice, people are very understanding and supportive! For me, I was drawn to Houston because of the renowned hospitals and medical community! I have not moved to Houston yet, but I am sure I will enjoy getting to explore the city soon!

On Fulbright:
It enables students with similar ambitions to connect and to learn from each other.

Fun fact about Emi:
I love to cook and to sing!
